Cadet
"The point of @Cadet has never been to turn out perfect pilots. The point is to help introduce new players to the game so they aren't quite as overwhelmed by the sheer amount of knowledge required to even start to be useful for a team. The point is to give you the terminology, the background knowledge, so you know what questions to ask."
The Cadet Program is a course designed to help new players learn the game. It has gone through many different evolutions during its time, starting as a "Take a newbie under your wing" policy amongst squads, to a list of recommended readings and activities, to a full-blown course with an exam at the end, and now to its current online version.
For the most current information visit the Academy's main page and look on the navigation tab for "Newbie guide".
Current version (April '08)
The Cadet course is run in two segments: the basic course, Cadet I, and the intermediate course, Cadet II. Completion of Cadet I is a requirement for beginning Cadet II.
There is also a read-only course available on the Academy website you can pursue independantly, which covers material similar to Cadet I.
Once you have successfully signed up you must wait until the next session begins, at which time you will be given access rights to a private forum on the Free Allegiance forums; where instructors will present information for you to read and discuss any questions you may have.
Please note that as the Cadet course is a constantly improving program the links below may become outdated.
