Flying in Formation

Introduction

In this section we will take a look at why and how to fly in formation.

The Flying V

In Allegiance it doesn't really matter what shape you make, a V, a circle, a square. All become irrelevant when things start happening. What you should pay close attention to is distances. You want all of your ships to be able to cover each other and deal damage to the enemy.

  • How close are you to your teamates?
  • How close are you to the miner/constructor?
  • How close are you to the bomber/htt?

Spread out far and wide when your team is attacking and y'all get picked off one by one. Spread out far and wide when your team is defending and y'all won't be able to deal enough damage.

Stay Together

Stay in a group until a task is complete. Wandering off is a sure way to end up in a pod and end up being useless to the team. Even if you do get split up from the group best practice is to head back to your nearest base and dock, then you can scan the map or fly out to get pods or wait for the rest of the team to get back.

Wait next to your base

When either preparing to attack or getting ready to defend, stay next to your base. Launch in whatever ship is needed and move to the side of the base. This way you are ready for the task at hand yet you are also able to dock with relative ease and speed should the need arise.

Follow a friendly ship

Once you are in a group pick a friendly ship to follow, you become their wingman for the current task. You fly behind them, next to them, in front of them doesn't matter so long as you know where they are and what they are doing. You attack the same thing as them, if they get podded and the task is complete you pick them up.

Wings

Offence Wing

If you are part of the OW you should always be flying in a group. What ever task it is that you are trying to accomplish stay together.

OWL

If you are OWL your job is to keep the OP's together and attacking as one unit. You call out targets to the group and to individuals. Try not to get directly involved with the action so you can keep your mind on the whole.

OP's

If you are an OP your job is to stay with the group, follow everyone else and focus on the task. Nothing else should concern you apart from achieving the task that the OW has been given.

Defence Wing

If you are part of the DW there will be times that you will not be part of a group but rest assured you are still part of the team and back up should never be too far away.

DWL

If you are DWL your job is to keep what ever it is you are protecting alive, miners/constructors/bases. Make sure your DP's are in the right ships. If you need more nans get them. You should always be directly involed with the current task.

DP's

If you are a DP your job is to work together with your fellow DP's to protect what ever it is you are tasked to protect. Sector awareness is needed, know where your fellow teamates are and what they are flying.

Support Wing

If you are part of the SW it can and will feel lonely at times but keep in mind the tasks that you complete will benifit everyone on the team. Also you are the back-up if everone else fails.

SWL

If you are SWL your job is to get your SP's where they need to go, if that means you have to res an aleph do it! If you have to form a small attack force to get a SP in do it!

SP's

If you are a SP your job is to keep the whole team working together by means of correct infromation. Sometimes you may find yourself the only one behind enemy lines but your teamates are never far behind.

Remember This

Flying in formaation is not about pretty shapes and looking good, it is about being an effective part of a group or team. So keep one eye on your teamates and the other on the enemy.
