Why must I donate my paydays?

Chances are you've probably glimpsed this message along the bottom of the screen ... and wondered where your money went.

The donation message

The answer to that is simple. Your pay has gone to the commander, the same as every one else on the teams' pay. Instead of hoarding the money for themselves players place their trust in their commander to invest that money in technology and bases, to give the team better toys to play with and a better chance of winning.

But I still don't want to donate my pay!

Too bad. Only the commander can choose who can stop donating.

The F5 - Investment screen

At any time you can press F5 to bring up the investment screen to see what has been purchased by the commander and how close it is to being completed.

In this picture you can see that the player has zero credits to invest but the commander has decided to invest in Enhanced Constructors and Enhanced Miners which, when finished, will make them both tougher and faster and will help the team's economy to expand.

Nearly all small-class ships are free to fly so as a pilot you don't need your own source of money.

However in the course of a game some ships do require money, and team members depend on the commander to give them money when it is needed. Click here for information on how to request money for a ship.
