The most important ship in the game - the Scout

The longer you play this game the more you will find that in pickup games (PUGs) the scout does not get the "glory" that the dogfighters do. A lot of players look at the "whores" and their kills and go "Wow, what a great player." The truth is, the really good players are not those folks. Not to say that whores have no effect, but not as much as other players in other ships do.

There are some really awesome players in this game who fly nothing but scouts such as Pook, Arkof, and Noir to name but a few. It is very rare to see them in any other ship. Why? Because they don't view Allegiance as "Quake in Space", they play the game to win. Hands down the only way a team wins a game is with the effort of their scout pilots. You can NOT see what the enemy is doing, find rocks and alephs, repair constructors, support your bombers, your transports, your capital ships, defend miners, repair bases, combat-nan your teammates, locate the opponent's bases, miners, constructors - effectively you can't do anything - without the efforts of the scout.

So although you won't get the "glory" of being a top-notch whore, if you decide to become a great scout pilot our community's commanders will love you! Squads (aka clans) are always on the lookout for great scout pilots to recruit. Many a squad game has been won with the most instrumental players having no kills or points. And let's face it, the players with a reputation of being good dogfighters are, for the most part, a bit full of themselves.

A scout is the most versatile ship in the game. It can do it all! That is why this course is geared to teaching you the basics of the game centered around a scout. Once you have learned the roles of a scout you can move into any other ship in this game and perform above the average player.

So all we ask is you make an effort to really learn this ship and it's capabilities. Fly it above all others the first few weeks you play. In our advanced courses we force the pilots to return to flying scouts and every single session players write about how they never knew all that can be done with a scout. These are guys who have been playing for years.

Skilled scout pilots can become as dangerous to approach as any int-whore, and some of them have awesome reputations for being very deadly with these ships. As you play you will learn which scout pilots to stay away from. To quote Pook, our retired community leader, "I may not be the best scout pilot, but I do it with style!". And he did.
